Why did we start this group? The simple answer is that this is our way of “paying it forward” as individuals and as an organization that has deep roots in the Northeast Ohio community. Whether it is a discussion regarding a resume or job search strategy, facilitating connections between a job seeker and “the right people” or making local hiring managers and recruiters available, the OCC leadership has a deeply passionate commitment to assisting those experiencing a job transition.
Rick Martin and Chuck Conrad created the OCC LinkedIn group and networking events back in February of 2011, because they saw a need in the community and wanted to share their vast network of contacts from years of being financial advisors. All of us who are part of overseeing OCC have been in transition at some point in our careers. We’ve walked in your shoes, understand and fully appreciate the difficult journey taken by today’s job seekers. Although we no longer host our monthly networking meetings as of April 2015, we are still committed to supporting those in career transition through our Ohio CareerConnect LinkedIn Group.
Since the group’s humble beginning, Rick and Chuck have helped hundreds with understanding how to handle their finances during a time of career transition, as well as helping them meet others who may have a connection to a potential employer through one-on-one coffees.
For some time now, the general consensus has been that over 80% of those finding new jobs have done so as a result of making the right connections through networking.
That is what we are all about…and that is why we do what we do.
